The Thyug clan are indigenous to the state of Nagaland and reside mostly in Kohima district. There are less than a 100 households in the Thyug clan as of 2020. A hunter from the Khing clan of the Rengma tribe was said to be a really good at hunting. One day, he hunted several wild boars in one feeding ground, and the elders in his village gave him the title of Thyugvuchunyu. Thus, his descendants now use the shortened form Thyug as their last name.
