Tirebuck Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Tarbock,' a township in the parish of Huyton, seven miles from Liverpool; v. Tarbuck, of which it is a variant.
As it occurs in the neighbourhood of Tarbock (v. Tarbock), is no doubt a corrupt imitative form of that name; but Tirebuck, the Liverpool novelist, used to say that the name was due to an ancestor who was so fleet a runner as to “tire the buck”!
May relate to some feat of the chase, but is more likely a corruption of Torbock, a Lancashire local surname. See Torbock.
From the German, Tirbach; a personal name.
