Version 1. What does the surname Titov mean.
The basis of the Titov surname was the church name Titus. The surname Titov goes back to the canonical masculine name Titus, which was formed from the Latin titulus - 'honor'. Titus, eventually got the name Titov.
Version 2
An interesting surname - not by itself, but by its 'namesakes.' Titus is a Russian name that came to us as a translation from the personal Roman name Titus, the supposed meaning of which is 'honor, honor'. And of course, the owners of the names Titaev, Titarenko, Titov, Titulin see exactly this meaning in them, and they are right. But some researchers are inclined to rank all surnames beginning with Kit in this series, since in some regions of Russia in the everyday life Titus was called Kit: Kitin, Kitov, Kitovkin, Kitovshchikov. Kitaev, Kitaigorodsky are close in meaning to the Kitovs and Titovs, but these names can have other meanings. The fact is that a whale is a bunch of poles or rods used in the construction of wood-earth fortifications. That's where the name Kitay Gorod came from in Moscow. However, a reservation is needed here. China is an old Russian nickname of Turkic origin: that was the name, for example, of Vladimir-Suzdal Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky.
Version 3.
The Titovs are a noble family originating from Veliky Novgorod. Under Ivan the Terrible, Boris Ivanovich Titov was governor in Staritsa. Famous composers Titovs, diplomat and archaeologist V.P. belong to this genus. Titov (died in 1891), and A.V. Titov, monk Alexei, Archbishop of Ryazan (died in 1751). This genus is included in the VI part of the genealogy book of the Moscow, Vladimir and Ryazan provinces (Herbovnik, II, 80). There are two more genera of the Titus, dating back to the 17th century, and many genera of the same name of a later origin.
Version 4.
The surname Titov is formed on the personal name of a distant ancestor. In ancient times, when the church set of names was just taking shape, there were already loved ones. These were the names of the apostles surrounding Christ, his disciples and followers, people who took torment for the ideals of Christ. Some are loved to this day, others have become forgotten over the years - and among them we can meet the name Titus, from which the Titov family name was formed.
