From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
This name was established in England before the Norman Conquest, for "Askyl Tokes sune" (Askyl son of Toke) signs a charter of Edward the Confessor, 1060. Tocca is mentioned as holding the land of Perdeyc (Partick) in a charter by David I to the church of Glasgow before 1136 (REG., 3). Bemardus filius Tocce witnessed the gift by Thor, son of Swan, of the church of Trauement (Tranent) to the monks of Holyrood, c. 1150 (LSC., p. 11), and before 1200 witnessed a confirmation charter by Rodbertus de Quinci (ibid., p. 30). Tocce, the father of Bernard, is probably the man who gave name to Toxside near Gladsmuir, Midlothian (c. 1142 Thoccheshewyd, p. 1165 Tockesheued, 1608 Toksyd). Sometime between 1235 and 1258 Alan filius Tock, a native man (a serf) was gifted to the Hospital of Soltre, and between 1238 and 1300 there is mention of land held by Tyhoc de Monte Laudonie (Mount Lothian, a small parish now incorporated in Penicuik parish, 1635) in Temple (Soltre, p. 29, 30). Symone Tok was a charter witness in Aberdeen, 1281 (REA., II, p. 279). The S' Joannis Tok is appended to charter of a tenement in Leirh, 1601 (Seals Supp., 953), and Isobel Tock is recorded in Edinburgh, 1649, and Thomas Tock, painter there, 1686 (Edinb. Marr.). Tyock uxor Andrei in villa Bondyngton is in record 1307 (Kelso, 42). This is perhaps the origin of the surname Tuke, which see.
