There are places of this name in Kincardineshire and in Fife, but Torrie of that Ilk was seated in Dumfriesshire till their forfeiture in the reign of James III, who regranted to Thomas Carruthers the lands and church of Tony, etc., "quae ad Georgium Tory de eodem, nostrum felonem et proditorem pertinuerunt, ratione ejus forfeiturse" (Nisbet, I, p. 306). David Torry, burgess of Elgin, 1590 (RPC., IVt p. 498). and Wilham Torie, bailie there, 1638, and Robert Torrie, mason there, 1691 (Moray). There were many Torries in Islay, Kerrera, etc., probably followers of Campbell of Cawdor when Campbell acquired Islay. George Torrie in Cawdor, witness to a bond in 1639 (Cawdor, p. 285).
