A parish in the arrondissement of Mortain in Normandy, latinized Tuschetum. From that place no doubt proceeded the great A. Norm, family, afterwards ennobled as Barons Audley. In the alliterative copy of the so-called Battel-Abbey Roll, Tuchet and Tritchelle occur in association, which is quantum valeat evidence of the Norman origin of the name. It is stated, however, that, at a later period, one Orme, who from his musical talents acquired the cognomen of "the Harper," was the first bearer of the name, and that he was sometimes called ' Citharista ' or "Touch-it!" See Sir P. Leycester's Tabley MSS., quoted in Ormerod's Cheshire iii. 23.
