Tragetour Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

This surname is derived from an occupation. 'the tragetour,' a master of legerdemain, a juggler.

'Swiche as thise subtil tregetoures play.' - Chaucer, The Canterbury Tales.

My first instance seems to imply a misreading of the text:

Richard le Tregheler: Kirby's Quest.

Symon le Tregetor, Cambridgeshire, 1273. Hundred Rolls.

William le Tregetur, Cambridgeshire, ibid.

Simon Tregetour, Webster 1379: Poll Tax of Howdenshire.

The last instance proves that the merely occupative title had settled down into an ordinary surname, but I fear it has not survived.
