Steyn (= Stephen or Steven) Tran was bailie of Irvine, 1540, Thomas Tran was charter witness there, 1455, Mariot Trane was repledged to liberty of the burgh in 1460 (Irvine, I, p. 45,147, 27), and Bartholomeu Trane was witness there, 1499 (Simon, 24). Stevin Tran, William Tran, and Hew Tran were burgesses of Irvine, 1590 (Irvine, I, p. 64), William Trayne, shipowner in Irvine is mentioned, 1557 (CRA., p. 305), and another William Trane in Irrwine, 1583 (Hunter, p. 31). Patrick Trane, merchand burgess of Glasgow, 1653 (Inquis., 3825), and in 1657 Alexander Trayne was heir of Mr. Alexander Trane, late minister at Lochruitoune (ibid., 4197). Johannes Trane was regent in the College of Glasgow, 1693 (Pollok, I, p. 343), and Joseph Train was correspondent of Sir Walter Scott.
