Two manors so called exist in Cornwall, and are situated respectively in the parishes of Alternon and Pelynt. "The former," says Mr. Shirley, "was the original seat of the Trelawnys, probably before the Conquest, and here they remained till the extinction of the elder branch in the reign of Henry VI. The latter was purchased from Queen Elizabeth by Sir John Trelawny, the head of a younger line of the family, in the year 1600," and it is still the seat of the baronet, who now represents the male line of this venerable house.
