Tremblay Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

TREMBLAY: Walter de Trembley occupied the lands of Delany in the Mearns, 1263 (Chamberlain's Rolls, I, p. 20), and Robert de Tremblay witnessed a charter of lands in Fife by Sir Alexander de Moray, 1281 (RPSA., p. 342). Robert de Tremblee who rendered homage in 1296 is probably Robert de Tremblay or Trembleye of Elgin en Moreve whose homage is recorded in the same year (Bain, II, p. 169,183, 209). From either of these individuals may have descended some or all of the Trimbills, Trombills, and Trumbles in Fife; but it is certain, says Stodart (II, p. 48), that the Angus family of Turnbull of Strickathrow was founded by a cadet of the Turnbulls of Bedrule. In the thirty-fourth year of his reign David II confirmed a charter of lands in Inverdovat, Fife, formerly held by the deceased Robert Trymblay, and resigned by his daughter and heir Cicilia (RMS., I, 186). John de Trumbeley witnessed lease of a toft and croft and pertinents in the vill of Glesbany, 1321 [SCM., II, p. 319). Trymlay 1584.
