An estate in the parish of St. Veep near Fowey, in Cornwall, where dwelt in the reign of Edward I., Nicholas de Trevelyan, whose ancestors had possessed the property from a still earlier period. See Shirley's Noble and Gentle Men. Nettlecombe, co. Somerset, became their seat in the XV. century, and Wallington, co. Northumberland, (acquired with the heiress of Calverley of Calverley,) in the XVIII.

(See Lowet, quoting Shirley's "Noble and Gentle Men.") There is a place called Trevilian Bridge in Merthyr. The name is from tre-vylgan, the dwelling of the seaman (vylgy, the sea), according to tradition, and the arms of Sir John Trovylian.
