Trüggelmann Surname Meaning
User-submitted Reference
The surname Trüggelmann originates from a farm in Ummeln, Bielefeld, Germany. Nearby was a small forest named Trugloh, from trug, meaning 'treacherous', because in the forest was a swamp, and Loh, meaning 'forest' in old German. Through the forest ran a little stream, named Truglohbach, from bach, meaning 'small stream' in German. The Truglohbach, today called Trüggelbach, ran through the farm, and when Prussia introduced surnames in the 16th century, the name of the family owning the farm became Trüggelmann, as they had to maintain the ford through the Trüggelbach on their land.
