Various translations from Turkish indicate that the suffix -oglou (or else -oğlu in turkish) means: the son, the descendant; while the prefix Tsil in turkish often means: dappled. By this we can perhaps assume that the first ancestor who originally bore the surname was some kind of worker or painter who had always a messy appearance and was given the nickname "dappled". Later his son became the "son of the dappled" and later in the years, the name Tsiloglou was formed.
