TUATHAL: In Old Irish Tothal, Welsh and Old Breton Tutgual, from original Touio-uallos, 'folk-ruler' or 'people mighty.' "Tuathal mac Artgusso, prim epscop Fortrenn acas abbas Duin caillenn dormivit," A.D. 864 (AU.) (Tuathal son of Artgus, chief bishop of Fortrenn and abbot of Dunkeld). Tuadal, episcopus Sancti Andree (1055-59), granted to the Keledei of Lochleven the church of Scoonie (RPSA., p. 116), and Thuadhel, sacerdos Keldeorum, witnessed a grant of lands to S. Serf and the Culdees of Lochleven by Edelradus (Ethelred), son of Malcolm III (loc. cit.). Tvethel or Twothel held the lands of Eth in Moray between 1187-1203 (REM., p. 455,457). Tothal is mentioned by Adamnan (I, c. 15) as father of Roderc (in Welsh Rhydderch), king of Petra Cloithe (Dumbarton).
