Family origin is mainly in the East Somerset and West Wiltshire area of England, in particular around the town of Frome and in the various villages of the River Wylye valley with the name of Deverill. The family migrated from the origin area around the mid-1800s. One family from Mells, Somerset moved to South Wales around 1845 and most, if not all Tudgay families of Wales are descended from the one family. This is also the line that led to further emigration to Pennsylvania, USA and most USA Tudgay families are descended from this line.
