A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames (1896) by Charles Wareing Endell Bardsley

From Tulloch in the parish of Dingwall. Nicholas de Tolach was witness in Brechin, 1364 (REB., I, 21). Fergus de Tulache was precentor in Brechin, 1372, an office held by another Fergus de Tulath in 1450 (ibid., I, 20,130). Walter de Tulache had charter of lands of Bondyngton in sheriffdom of Forfar, 1376 (RMS., I, 570), and David de Tulach had charter of lands of Cragnachtoun and Ednelstoun in Kyncardyn, 1380 (Laing, 65). Walterus de Tolacht. witness in Aberdeen, 1387 (REA., I, d. 177). Wat of Tulloch was one of assizi on marches of Woodwrae, 1388 (Bamff, p. 22). John de Tulach was elected a lineator in Aberdeen, 1398 (CRA., p. 374), and John, son of William of Toullocht, was appointed keeper of the Muir of Montrewmonth, 1399 (HMC., 7. Rep., App., p. 718). David de Tolauch who was juror on inquest at Carnconane, 1409 (RAA., II, 49) may be David de Tulach, attorney and depute for Alexander Stewart, earl of Mar, 1423 (SCM., IV, p. 127). John Tulch or Tulach was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1411, and Donald de Tidche in 1466 (NSCM., I, p. 4, 20). Thomas Tholak, bishop of Orkney, obtained the Castle of Kirkqwaw (Kirkwall) in feoff, 1422 (Dipl. Norv., II, p. 498). Two Tullochs held the bishopric from 1418 to 1477, and Hector de Tullach was a canon there in 1467 (SCM., V, p. 394). An inquest was made in 1438 regarding the lands of Walter de Tullawch (RAA., II, 83). Thomas Tullo 'duelland in the chanoure of Ross' had a precept of remission, 1492 (RSS., I, 13). David Tullow, member of assize, 1506, appears as David Tullo of Hylcarny, 1520 (SCBF., p. 187). Tholach and Tolach 1422, Tullauch 1520, Tullocht 1600, Tulloich 1511, Tulloicht 1558, Tulloiss 1529, Tullous 1510, Tulloycht 1560, Tulous 1436.
