From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

From the old lands and barony of the name in Kirkcudbrightshire. Walter de Twynham who witnessed a charter of a carucate of land in Langholme to Herbert Maxwell, c. 1270 (RHM., I, 7; Pollok, I, p. 125) may be the Walter de Twynham who held the barony of Levingtone in 1279 (Bain, II, p. 37). An inquisition was made before Sir Walter de Tninan in 1296 (ibid., II, p. 215), and in the same year a writ to the sheriff of Dumfries was issued in favor of Walter de Twynham (ibid., p. 219). Sir Walter de Tuinan was keeper of the sheriffdom of Wigtoun in 1296, and Walter, son of Richard de Twynham, juror on inauest on lands in Dumfries in same year (ibid., p. 215,216). William de Twynham, parson of the. church of S. Brigid in Ayr, appears between 1296-1307 (ibid., p. 523). Walter de Twinham who was chancellor to King Robert Bruce in 1329 (Panmure, II, 164; RHM., I, 37) was probably Walter de Twinam, canon of Glasgow, 1337 (Pap. Lett., II, p. 543), and the Walter of Twynhame who witnessed a charter of Sweetheart Abbey (Laing, 46). John Twynholme in Speddoche, 1658 (Dumfries). James Tuyman was resident in the parish of Colwend, 1684 (RPC., 3. ser. IX, p. 582). Marion Twynholm in Crofts of Crossmichael, 1748, and John Twiname in Balgerran, 1800 (Kirkcudbright).
