It should derive from the Italian-Germanic name Ubaldo, which was particularly widespread in the Middle Ages. It is reminiscent of Pope Lucius III of about 1100, of the century Ubaldus Allucingolus and of Sant'Ubaldo Baldassini of a noble family of Gubbio, who became Bishop of Perugia in 1128.

Traces of this knowledge are found in Faenza since 1200 where the Ubaldini were feudal lords of several countries.

The Ubaldi surname is specific to the band that includes Marche, Umbria and Lazio.

Ubaldini occupies the same area, with a lineage also in Bologna and in Trieste. Ubalducci, very rare, it would seem of the Pesaro.
