Ufford), Anglo-Saxon *Uffa(n)ford = Uffa’s Ford [Uffan-, genit. of Uffa (v. under Uff); and + Old English ford] The Uffawyrð [Old English wyrð, Worð, estate] of a Northants charter dated A.D. 948 prob. relates to the same proprietor who is connoted in the Ufford nr. Stamford.

His son of the same name was summoned to Parliament as a baron in 1308, and his grandson, also a Robert de Ufford, was created Earl of Suffolk.
