From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

UNIAET: Uniaet thwite, more correctly Uniaett Hwite, was one of the witnesses to the charter by King Eadgar granting the vill of Swinton to the monks of S. Cuthbert, c. 1100 (Nat. MSS., I, 4). As Unyet albus he witnessed King David's grant of three serfs to the church of Dunfermlyn, c. 1126 (RD., p. 13), and at the same time, as Vnyet, he witnessed the same king's mandate regarding fugitive serfs of the same church (ibid., p. 17). As Vnyet albus he was one of the attesters to David's charter to Dunfermline confirming the grants of preceding kings and making increased gifts, c. 1128 (ibid., p. 4). In 1128, as Vniet Albo, he witnessed David's grant of the tithe of his house at Perth to Dunfermline Abbey (ibid., p. 12). About 1134 he appears as Uniet Albus among the witnesses to David's grant of Govan to the church of Glasgow (REG., p. 11). As Vineth Albus he held land near Edinburgh, and gave a part of Craggenemarf to Holyrood Abbey before 1128 (LSC., p. 6). Lawrie (ESC., p. 328) suggests that "He may have been one of the king's household, whose duty it was to give orders to the steward at Perth." If he is tljc Vinget who attests with a + the charter by King Duncan II to the monks of S. Cuthbert in 1094 and the Uniaet thwite of Eadgar's charter he must have been well advanced in age at the date of his last appearance.
