From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
UORET: A Pictish name found on the eighth-century sculptured monument at St. Vigeans in Angus (Nicholson, KR., pl. opp. p. 74). It appears also as the name of a Pictish king (c. 839-841) misspelled in the chronicles Urod, Uurad, Uuroid, Wrad, Wroid, Fereth, etc. (CPS.). We have probably another form of the name in Forat, with whose sons S. Patrick had dealings in Muscraige Tire (Vit. Trip., p. 210,351). compare also Breton Uuoret (Loth, p. 179), explained as meaning 'helper.' The root still survives in Gaelic fòir, 'help.'
