Adam Urri appears as burgess of Irvine in 1260 (Irvine, I, p. 5), and Huwe Urry of Ayrshire rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 210). Reginald Uny held land in Irvine in 1323 (Irvine, I, p. 123), William Urri resigned the lands of Fulton in 1409 (RMP., p. 56), and John Vriy purchased a tenement in Glasgow, 1418 (LCD., p. 239). Thomas Urie, maltman, burgess of Glasgow, 1620 (Burgesses), is probably Thomas Urie, polentarius, burgess there in 1643 (Inquis., 2819). The above group of entries point to a place of the name in Ayrshire as their origin although they are all without 'de.' (2) The following may have derived their surname from Urie in Fetteresso parish, Kincardineshire. Hugh de Urre who swore fealty at St. John of Perth and again (p) as Hugh Uny at Forfar, 1296 (Bain. II, p. 178). Duncan Urry or Urri, Scots prisoner or war taken at Dunbar, incarcerated in Gloucester Castle, 1297, escaped in 130 2/3 (ibid., 742,938, 1399). Hugh or Hugo Vrry, burgess of Stirling, was ordered to replace the cruives (wattled hedges built on tidal flats for catching fish) of the abbot of Cambuskenneth which he and his accomplices had destroyed in 1366 (APS., I, p. 527; Cambus, 54), and Gilbert Vrry held the land of Forglen, 1387 (RAA., II, 39).
