This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Urwick.' Mr. Lower suggests that it is a variant of Urswick, a parish in Furness, North Lancashire. This is very improbable, as Urswick does not appear to have become the parent of an hereditary surname. Besides, Urwick as a surname is almost entirely confined to South, and especially Southwest, England. I suspect it will be found to represent some small spot in the neighbourhood of Somerset. Usborn, Usborne.—Bapt. —the son of Osbern,' a variant. We find Osebern in the Hundred Rolls, and this would readily become Usbern; v. Osborn.
