The first half of the X1I century (according to other sources in the fifteenth century) are the first emigration from northern Italy to Calabria, composed of groups of Occitan Piedmontese refugees from the Pellice and Angrogna valleys, of the Waldensian religion, originally coming from Provence. escaped the persecutions of the Catholic Church. The Occitan remained in Calabria are the heirs of those who survived the subsequent decimations ordered by the Church in 1560, when the troops of Cardinal Ghislieri occupied Guardia Piemontese, bursting from one of the gates (called since Porta del Sangue) of the Castle of Guardia and killing of how many Waldensians were possible.
