The book "Le Censier l'amanducal pourie de Bruxelles 1321" provides a list of Latin 'cijnsplichtigen' for the city of Brussels in the year 1321. Here are three individuals listed by their Latinized name "Fonte", which means " fountain ". It is not clear what Flemish or French family have worn those involved in reality it can "Fountain" or "de la Fontaine" have been, but also a variant "of the borne" or "van den Borne" or "borremans". The significance of these two groups name is about the same: it is about people coming from the vicinity of a borne / bubbler / source or fountain. The name Borremans or Vanden Borre came to Brussels frequently: in the 15th century, one Jan Borremans compatriot indeed an excellent reputation as a city sculptor. The equivalence of Fonteyn and Borremans was formerly known, not just in Brussels. There have been described several cases (17th century) of people who have changed their name Borremans in Fonteyn or vice versa. It is therefore possible that some branches Fonteyn in the male line descended from ancestors who originally surname Van den Borne, Borremans or something like that and bore who switched later to the finer "Fonteyn". In the name Fonteyn is assumed that the name originally given to the square or the house where the fountain was located and that the name is then passed to the residents of the house. In the name Borremans / Vanden Borre who detour | was probably not taken: it directly refers to a person who lived in the vicinity of a source: the family Fonteyn would therefore have known a long development, from which the conclusion that Borremans / Vanden Borre is possible over Fonteyn. Als avoid oldest is abandoned in 1396: Jan van den Borre sheets (= otherwise stated) Borreman.
