Vejzagic Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

The Vejzagic surname has its origin in the time when Anatolia was not part of the Ottoman Empire. Pagan, and then Orthodox ancestors, who bore the family name Veyz in Anatolia, were engaged in breeding horses and forestry. When Anatolia came under Ottoman rule, the Veyz family moved to the West, fleeing from the Ottomans. A male descendant, Veyz Aga, moved to Dalmatia, and then he married a woman from Livno. Since the members of the family of a gentleman named Veyz Aga considered the Turks, because of their Turkish citizenship, in Mostar in 1878, on the recommendation of Croatian municipalities, Salih (later Salih Vejzagic) founded the family name in line with the Yugoslav traditions of giving names. Thus, for the first time in 1878, with the arrival of Austro-Hungarians, resulted in the surname Vejzagic. From Livno, the three sons of the family Vejzagic agreed to extend the family name and tradition in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One son moved to Zenica, and the other in Sarajevo, while the third remained in Livno. For these cities, encouraged the greatest number of descendants of an ancestor named Veyz Aga, high gentleman - Croatian Muslim - from the former Herceg-Bosna and high Austro-Hungarian official after the arrival of Austro-Hungarians in Bosnia. After the Croatian population an ancestor was called Veyz Aga Turk, remained the custom that the family Vejzagic were Muslims-Turks. Slowly Islam became adopted in that family, but there is a large number of Catholics from the same family.

The original family Veyz in Anatolia had a mixed ancestry, composed of Mongolian, Persian, Syrian and Russian genes (family members). Most of them were Veyz warrior-riders: some of whom have historically been Tatar warriors, and some have become janissaries. Swords from the Ottoman period, which belonged to Veyz warriors are located in a family house, Vejzagic, in Sarajevo, and part in Livno. Behind the family Vejzagic, the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia, the former Herceg-Bosna and the Croatian Turks remained at Veyz or Vejz tower, built by the high gentleman Veyz aga. After the persecution of Muslims from the family Vejzagic, the tower was renamed the tower of a local Catholic, old man. During agrarian reform in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the family of Vejzagic had almost all land holdings in Herzegovina taken away, including the estates of all Hercegovka in-law, who have been married foresons and grandsons of an ancestor named Veyz aga. The descendants of an ancestor named Veyz aga today most live in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. Almost all have a historical right to Croatian and Turkish citizenship. Most of these descendants are Muslims today, but there are a lot of Catholics, who have kept Hercegbosnian (Croatian) customs, traditions and culture. They speak mainly Croatian, Croatian-Serbian and Bosnian languages. Their pre-religion was first pagan (they worshiped forests and trees), and then Orthodox, before the arrival of the Ottomans in the Anatolian steppes.

Most of the Vejzagic family have brown hair and brown eyes, and thick black (Asiatic) eyebrows. Their hair sometimes has a Celtic glare (reddish at birth). They are mostly of a low to medium height, but it is rare stature.
