John Verner was burgess of Edinburgh, 1428 (RAA., II, 61), Wiliam Vernour claimed land in Edinburgh as heir of his brother John Vernour, 1478 (Stodart, II, p. 376). Thomas Vernour or Vemor of Auchin-ctinny was charged in 1529 with engaging in feud (Trials, I, p. 143). Thomas Verner of Auchindinie, who died April 1618, and Gavin Verner, who died ir. 1647, are both interred in Glencorse churchyard (Grant, Call of the Pentlands, p. 100). David Vernor is recorded in Divansyde, parish of Carmichael, 1685 (Lanark CR.), Andrew Vemor was merchant in Edinburgh, 1674 (Inquis., 5775), and John Vernor, merchant in Glasgow, 1690 (ibid., 7015). Harrison says a French form of Old Teutonic personal name Warenheri.
