About 1200 Radulphus uacca witnessed a charter by Henry de Graham (Neubotle, 8). Alexander la uache who witnessed a charter of the church of Driuesdale between 1214-19 (REG., p. 126) is probably Dominus Alexander de (for le) Vacca, who witnessed a grant by Richard Germyn to the House of Soltre between 1235—58 (Soltre, p. 26). William le Wache of Peeblesshire rendered homage, 1296. His seal bears an arm holding a hawk, a cross moline in chief, S' Willelmi Vache (Bain, II, p. 207,553). William de Vache witnessed a charter of the lands of Lintonrothirrik, c. 1316 (RHM., I, 19), and in 1331 William Veitch witnessed resignation of lands in the barony of Drumelzier (Hay, p. 9). The Veitches appear to have obtained Dawick in the fifteenth century, and William the Wache of Dawic appears as frequent suitor before the Lords of Council and Lords Auditors of Parliament between 1474 and 1494 (ALA., ALC.). William Vache of Dawic and William the Vaich and Walter the Vaich are referred to in 1473 and 1484 (Peebles, p. 20, 31). John Vache in Dalkeith was summoned before the Privy Council in 1566 (RPC., I, p. 444), and Dandie Vauche was tenant under the abbot of Kelso, 1567 (Kelso, p. 526). James Waitche, lawful son of Alexander Waitche of Hamilton, was heir of Andrew Waitche, portioner of Stewartoun, 1628 (Inquis., 1426). Johannes Weatche, burgess of Edinburgh, 1645 (Inquis. Tut., 692). Vaiche 1526, Vaitch 1621, Vaitche 1664, Veache 1629,Veatch 1665, Vetch 1655,Vetche 1627, Veitche 1624, Weatch 1624, Wesche 1561; Veatche, Veche, Waiche, Waitch, Weich, Weitch, Weitche.
