In this particular instance, the surname Victorino derives from the personal name Victoris, derived from the Latin victoris, meaning 'victor', 'winner'. Thus, the initial bearer of this surname was known as the 'son or descendant of Victorino'. Variants of the surname Victorino include Victorio and Victor and this surname has also been recorded in Spain.

One of the earliest references to this name or to a variant is a record of one Marco Pio Avonio Victorino, the Roman Cesar, who ruled in Galias from the year 265 to 267. The birth of Agnes Victorino, took place in 1731 in Baleares, Spain. Maria Victorino, daighter of Antonio Victorino and Vicencia Maria de Morais was baptized on the 2nd of November. 1845 in Santo Amaro, Sao Paulo and Alfred Victorino, son of Manuel Victorino was born in Portugal on the 28th of February, 1880. In a Spanish Military Armorial we read of one Jose Victorino del Cristo, who entered the Infantry of the Royal Army in 1836 and Pedro Victorino Santoya who entered the Cavalry in 1879.
