User-submitted Reference
- Transliterated into English this surname would read Vishekruna.
- It is most commonly possessed by ethnic Serbs and Croats.
- Unlike the vast majority of South Slavic surnames, it is not patronymic.
It is very likely a toponymic surname. I base this conclusion on the very meaning of the words which make up the surname. Višekruna consists of two words, neither of them refers directly to any geographical features. However, više - can be translated as more in its basic form. However in its prepositional form it can be translated as over, above and plus. Kruna - can easily be translated as crown or a corona. In regular parlance among common people of the Balkans certain mountain peaks would be referred to as krune or crowns. From this it follows that Višekruna means one who is (lives) above (past) the mountain peaks.
