There are three brotherhoods of the Vlahovljak surname, and two of them are located in two villages near Pljevlja, Montenegro (Durutovići and Boljanići) and one in the town, and these brotherhoods are not related at all.

The brotherhoods (which are in the town of Pljevlja) surname was once Jahijabegovich (Jahijabegović) and they lived in Herzegovina. They had big fields in their property. There is a story that they stole land from Vlasi (ethnic group of people that lived there) and that is why they got the surname Vlahovljak.
