Walbonk was the name of an hereditary tenant of Billington in the 14th century: Adam de Walleboncke was vicar of Blackburn from 1317 to 1320 Richard del Wallebonck held land in Church, also in the 14th century; the Walbanks were a gentle family in Whalley parish in 1618; William Walbancke was headmaster of the Clitheroe school in 1608 (W.
