From the office of keeper of the royal wardrobe. The wardrobe was a repository not only for articles of dress, but for furniture not actually in use, and for foreign spices and confections (ER., I, pref. p. 1). Robertus de Warderob witnessed a charter by Margaret, countess of Buchan in favor of the Abbey of Arbroath, c. 1210 (RAA., I, p. 94). John de Wardroba laid claim to certain lands in Kilpatrick, Dumbartonshire,, c. 1270 (RMP., p. 180), and Randinus de Warderoba witnessed a quitclaim of Beeth Waldef in Fife, 1278 (RD., p. 52). Alisaundre de la Garderobe of Edinburghshire and David de la Garderobe of Fife rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 204,213). John de Gardropa was appointed proluctor in Aberdeen, 1317 (SCM.. V, p. 8), and Adam de Gardropa confirmed the transfer of lands to John Crab there in 1351 (Friars, 16). Thomas Vardrop de Gothynys acquired a fourth part of Thenstoun, 1450, and in 1465 as Thomas Wardropare de Gothnys he had a charter of confirmation of the lands of Thanystoune in the thanage of Kintore (View, p. 574,575). Alexander Wardroper and James Wardroper witnessed a charter of lands in Scone, 1491 (Scon, p. 199), Archibald Vedderop was bailie of Glasgow, 1525 (REG., 497), and Thomas Wedderop and James Wedderop were jurors on assize of lands in Gowane (Govan), 1527 (Pollok, I, p. 258). Thomas Wardroper of Ballatheis granted a charter in favor of John Montcreiff, 1531 (Methven, p. 43), John Wodrop held a land in Glasgow, 1547 (Protocols, I), Gilbert Wedrop was charged with tumult there, 1606 (RPC,, VII, p. 244), William Waddrope was admitted burgess of Glasgow, 1608 (Burgesses), and Barbrye Wadrope is recorded in Swyntounhill, 1671 (Lauder).
