From the office of warrener (OF. Warrennier > ME. warnere), an officer employed to watch over the game in a park or preserve, later the keeper of a warren. The d is excrescent. In 1264 we have record of payment to the keeper of the rabbit warrens of Crail (custodi warrenarum de Karral (ER., I, p. 4). John Warrander had a confirmation charter of Balchristie Links in Fife in 1601 (RD., p. 501). George Wanrender was dean of guild in Aberdeen, 1708 (Guildry, p. 202).
