Probably from Westlandis vocatis The Leyes of Tullochaddie which were retoured to George, marquis of Huntlie, in 1638 (Retours, Aberdeen, 242). Alexander Westland was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1461 (NSCM., I, p. 17), and a later Alexander Westland was dean of guild in the same city in the first half of the eighteenth century. John Westland leased part of the Grange of Aberbothry in 1443 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 120), Symon Westland was tenant of Kemphill, 1482 (ibid., I, p. 233), and John Westland in the parish of Banchory-Devenick, died in 1826 (Banchory-Devenick, p. 298).
