A family of this name were prominent burgesses of Edinburgh in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. John Wyggemore, burgess of Edinburgh, who rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, 820 and p. 197) may be the John de Wyggemer who was a witness in the inquiry concerning the Templars in Scotland in 1309 (Wilkins, Concilia, p. 382), and the John Wigmor, burgess of Edinburgh in 1328 (LSC., 87). Sir Roger Wygmer had a grant of land in 1392 from the common good of the town of Edinburgh, and was a charter witness there in 1397 (RMS., I, App. I, 157) as Roger Wigmere. In the sixteenth century the family of this name possessed a mansion in Jedburgh, now called "Queen Mary's House," from a tradition that Mary, Queen of Scots, stayed in it far a few days in 1566.
