WHITSTER: This name looks like the feminine of Whiter. See termination STER. If so, it should mean a bleacher; but Halliwell says, that it is an eastern provincialism for a whitesmith.
Whitster: a bleacher of linen. Mrs. Ford says: “John and Robin . . . take this basket on your shoulders. That done, trudge with it in all haste, and carry it among the whitsters in Datchet mead.”
