Perhaps of local origin from Whitehauch, anciently Quhithauch, in Liddesdale. There is, however, an Old English personal name, Hwittuc or Hwituc, from which it may be derived. William Quhittok in Edinburgh had a precept of sasine in 1576 (Soltre, p. 138), and Umphredus Quhittak was heir of James Quhittak in Clevage, 1636 (Inquis., 2241).
