A surname in Orkney, of local origin from the town of Wick in Caithness. Sir James of Weik is in record in 1456 (OPS., II, p. 021), and again in 1461 as Wrke (Clan Donald, I, p. 546). (2) Perhaps of local origin from England. Wyke in Yorkshire was Qwyk in 1297 (Ewen, p. 340), and there are three places named Week in Somersetshire indifferently pronounced Week and Wick. A payment was made to William Wik, a mime who played before King James I, 1430 (ER., IV, p. 630).
