James Widowson in Fiddesbeg, 1735 (Aberdeen). Lower and Ewen (p. 248) consider this name as "son of Wido, i.e. Guido." See Widow. This name may have been earlier spelled Wedonsone or Wedowsoun. Alexander Wedowstoune, admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1579 (NSCM., I. r. 74) appears again as Wedonsone in 1595 (CRA., p. 127), and James Wedonsoun was admitted burgess of the same town in 1597 (NSCM., I, p. 91).
