Winram was the name of an old family in Clydesdale. Wishaw (Description of Lanark, p. 63) says Wynrehame of Wyston held the barony of Wiston, but died without male heirs (in the fifteenth century) George Wynrahame and Johne Wynrahame were summoned in 1479 to answer to Parliament for treason and other crimes (APS., II, p. 129). John Winram, sub prior of St. Andrews, was superintendent of Fife after the Reformation. Robert Winram was burgess of Dunfermline, 1605, Robert Winrahame, witness in Edinburgh; 1609 (Edinb. Marr.), and Robert Wynrahame was Islay Herald, 1615 (HP., III, p. 209). Alexander Windrim was couper in Stitch ell, 1659 (Stitchill, p. 15), James Winrahame was retoured heir in lands and barony of Wistoun, 1659 (Retours, Lanark, 271), and Tohn Winderaham had a lease of Sheens Walls, Edinburgh, 1668 (BOEC., X, p. 151).
