WORMET: Probably from the lands of Wormet near Balmerino, Fife, though the references to the name link it mainly with Aberdeen. John Wormet who was elected bailie of Aberdeen, 1398 (CRA., p. 374) may be the Johannes Wormot recorded there, 140& (CWA., p. 315). Several individuals named Wormot, Wormet, and Wormote were elected burgesses of Aberdeen between 1440 and 1488 (NSCM., I, p. 5, 15, 17, 33). Robert Wormot who appears on assizes in Aberdeen, 1462 and 1463 (SCM., V, p. 22; CRA., p. 26) may be Robert Vormet, witness, 1469 (REA., I, p. 289). Sir Henry Wormot was sacrist of the cathedral of Dornoch, 1472 (OPS , II, p. 623). John Wormat who obtained protection to travel in England, 1486 (Bain, IV, 1522) may be John Wormet, burgess of Aberdeen, 1487 and 1502 (CRA., p. 43; REA., I, p. 318; RAA., II, 425).
