The Lancashire Worthingtons have long been associated with Manchester and its vicinity. Dr. Worthington, a noted divine of the 17th century, was born in Manchester in 1617; Samuel Worthington, Esq., was a Salford boroughreeve in 1750 (Baines' "Lancashire").
