According to Lower, the Yeos arc an ancient Devonshire family. He seems to suggest that they may have had their name from the river Yeo in that county. D. Gilbert says they were formerly persons of consequence in the North of Cornwall and of Devonshire, and that they bore arms, Argent, a chevron Gules, between three birds. C. S. Gilbert derives the name from Troyeo, near Stratton. There is also Treyewin Kenwyn, which Pryce renders "the above or upper town" (tre-yew, -yuh). Yeo, Yoe may also be Cornish forms of Hugh.
