This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Yewdale.' Probably the Yorkshire Yewdalls are sprung from some small dale of that name in the West or North Riding. There is a Yewdale at the northern end of Coniston Lake, which seems to have originated a surname. As the first instance below is found in the immediate neighbourhood of Skipton it maybe that the Coniston vale is the true parent of all the Yewdalls.
