England & Wales Criminal Registers (1791-1892)

This collection lists brief details on 1.55 million criminal cases in England and Wales between 1791 and 1892. Its primary use is to locate specific legal records, which may give further details on the crime and the accused. Details may include the accused's age, nature of crime, location of trial and sentence. Early records can contain a place of birth.

Prison Hulk Registers (1802-1849)

From the late 18th century many prisoners in Britain were kept on decommissioned ships known as hulks. This collection contains nearly 50 years of registers for various ships. Details given include: prisoner's name, date received, age, year of birth and conviction details.

Dorchester Prison Documents (1782-1901)

Over 60,000 documents relating to prisoners held at Dorchester Prison. The collection includes admission and discharge books and photographs of the latter prisoners.

Perth Royal Burgh Register of Deeds (1566-1811)

A name index linked to original images of copy bonds, acts, obligations and other legal documents. These were collected by a central registry to safeguard losses of documents, forgeries and legal disputes.

Dorset Alehouse Licences & Recognizances (1754-1821)

Documents relating to the licensing of alehouses. Contains details on the proprietor, establishment and conditions of the licence.

Lincolnshire Settlement Certificates (1675-1860)

Transcriptions of 8,600 certificates that allowed people to return to a parish if a parish they moved to ejected them. Useful for tracing the migration of poorer citizens.

Manchester Prison Registers (1847-1881)

A name index linked to original images of over 250,000 Manchester prison records. Records contain details on the convict's birth, appearance, crime and more.

Manchester Workhouse Registers (1800-1911)

An index to over 650,000 poor law records for three workhouses in the Manchester area. The index is linked to images of the original documents.
