The new settlers (Nqina Ngcono and his family) would welcome the visitors (spies) and offer them something to slaugher (abahlabise); eat and carry for the journey, every time on they were on their spying mission.
This generosity reached the surrounding chiefs until whenever they sent spies would refer to these people (the Ngobo's) as abohlabisa. Then they were known as Hlabisa's. The name came out of that form of generosity.
