From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

MACJARROW, Macjerrow: 'son of Dewar,' which see. Anderson (Scot. Nat.) says that on a tombstone in the churchyard of Urr it is recorded that John Macjore in Cartine died in 1691; also John M'George of Cocklick, his son, died 1726. "There were two other branches," says Anderson, "believed to be of the same family, in the county of Ayr.. These branches originally spelled the name MacJarrow, and it so appears in the statute of William and Mary restoring the memory, fame, and worldly honoers of above 400 victims of oppression during the twenty-three preceding years." Robert McJarrow in Hoilhous, 1607 (RPC., XIV, p. 518). John McJorrie or McJarrow of Bangeroch (or Penjarrow) and Henry McJorrie or McJarrow of Altrawarie, Ayrshire, were prosecuted for rebellion, 1681 (ibid., 3. ser. VII, p. 7,217). James McJore was resident in the parish of Borgue, 1684 (ibid., 3. ser. XII, p. 220,450). Hendry McJerrow was a "merchand in Air," 1704 Corsehill, p. 203) and John McJorrow of Pingerroch, "chirugeon aporie" in Ayr was admitted burgess of Prestwick, 1732 (Prestwick, p. 91). M'Joir 1565, M'Joyr 1601, McJury. In 1684 (Parish): McJory, McJorrie, Jorie. Makgeore 1662.
